In Bruges (Film)

In Bruges

Written and Directed by Martin McDonagh

US Release: February 8, 2008 (Limited Cities)

DVD Release: June 24, 2008

Fans of dark comedy, this one is for you. If you like films like Fargo and Death To Smoochy, if you understand that SlingBlade is a comedy, then you will probably like In Bruges.

This feature length film tells the story of Ken and Ray, two contract killer just off a job. Their boss, Harry, has instructed the two men to lay low in Bruges, Belgium until he calls with further orders. The two men discover their views differ on almost everything, and they clash as they try to find ways to kill time.

In Bruges is a brilliantly constructed screenplay, but it seems to have flown almost completely under the radar in the US. Granted, this was Martin McDonagh's first feature lenght film, but his short film Six Shooter-- which you can find on itunes-- won an Academy Award. Besides McDonagh is no up and coming slouch. He got his start as a playwright and received four different Tony nominations for Best Play, before turning to film.

No matter the reason for its stiffled fiancal success, In Bruges is one of the best dark comedies I've ever seen, and it's definately worth checking out.

Sponsored by EnterTo.com the first REAL spam free email
