Social Coupons

Social coupons.... some of us them, others don't bother. Afterall, how much is a penny worth to each of us? I've always thought a penny saved, a penny richer. It seems as though that perception has gone out the window, at least when offered a social coupon.

You might be wondering why I've described a coupon as a social coupon. Coupons are social in the sense that some of us share them as we use them in public at grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Most of us have used one, once in our lifetime since we have been old enough to spend money, well we'd all like to believe. Its not new that some of us snub coupons as though I have enough money to go without them, but in this current economy I wondered if being generous with coupons would make somewhat a difference in how we spend. I thought, hey, people want to save.

I was not completely right, and the generosity was not as well recieved. I stood in line at a fast food restaurant looking to share these excellent coupons given to me. I tried to be discreet as I passed them out, but not always to my or I should say another's avail. I wondered as I was declined from a few customers, not interested in the coupons, whether or not coupons, are so called not in style.

Is it socially unacceptable to use them, has this thought always been prevalent in U.S. society? Its clear that some of us use them, not thinking it would ruin their pride, or that they don't have enough money not to use them. Is this social coupon, dispensible, no longer appreciated? I for one, think people neglect this penny saved without thinking they could be a penny richer.

Next time, accept a coupon, and think to yourself, your'e that much richer for doing so.
