Every Wednesday I will post a review of the most popular DVD release of the week. However for my first review I chose a movie that was released a few weeks ago, and that movie is 21. Next Wednesday I will start reviewing DVD's released that week.

21 - Produced by Kevin Spacy, Dana Bruneti, and Michael De Luca. Screenplay written by Peter Stienfeld and Allan Loeb. Based on the book "Bringing Down The House" by Ben Mezrich. Starring Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth, Laurence Fishburne, and Kevin Spacy. Rated PG-13. Runtime approx. 123 minutes.

21 is a hip, stylish true story based on a team of MIT students counting cards playing Blackjack. The main character Ben is a shy but very smart MIT student who has been accepted to Harvard med school which is his life long dream. Only problem is he can't afford the 300 thousand dollar tuition. He is propositioned by his college proffesor Mickie, who sees that Ben is extremely smart and has a talent with numbers and Statistics. Mickey offers Ben a place on his team of blackjack card counters who hit Vegas on the weekends to make big bucks. Ben is reluctant to join at first but can't resist the tempation of his dream girl who is on the team, and the thought of making enough money to put him through med school. Lots of twists and turns occur while the team takes Vegas for millions, eventually leading to a very satisfying climatic ending.

I chose to review this movie for a few reasons. The young cast of actors alongside legends like Spacey and Fishburne are magnificent. All the characters are very believable and fit the roles to a T. The shots of Vegas and downtown Boston are very well done, exactly showing the difference between the two locations and the lifestyles being lived at each city. After watching this movie I am sure millions of people went to thier nearest casino trying to count cards and beat the house, and I am pretty sure the casinos made millions from it.

Bottom line: Entertaining movie, great bonus features on the dvd showcasing production of the movie and Blackjack tips, great cast, and great story. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Sponsored by EnterTo.com the first REAL spam free email

Click Below to discover and share content from anywhere on the web
